Indian Court System Explained
India has a well-structured judicial system with the Supreme Court at the apex, followed by High Courts at the state level, and District Courts at the district level. Understanding this hierarchy helps litigants know where to file their cases.
Supreme Court of India
The Supreme Court is the highest judicial authority in India. It hears appeals from High Courts and handles constitutional matters under Article 32.
High Courts
Each state has a High Court. High Courts hear appeals from district courts and have writ jurisdiction under Article 226.
District Courts
District Courts are the primary trial courts for civil and criminal matters. Most legal cases begin here.
